The new town hall is a public and open building that signals the service the public provides to citizens and the meeting place between different Sandnesers, employees and politicians. With the new town hall along the waterfront, Sandnes gets a new landmark that signals modernity, sustainability, growth and openness, while at the same time building on the strong historical roots of the walled town. The glass-covered atrium space is the centre and gathering place for the town hall. Here, all functions are transparent and easily accessible to citizens. Both in materials and size, the new town hall communicates with the cultural centre next door. Together, the two buildings mark the meeting point between city and water and form the natural centre of the city.
